What is Nakshatra Pada?
Each Nakshatra is further divided into 4 Padas (quarters) of 3 degrees and 20 minutes each. The Pada adds precision to Nakshatra analysis and is used for determining the Navamsa (D9) chart placement of the Moon. The Pada also determines the starting syllable of a person's name according to Vedic naming traditions. Together, the 27 Nakshatras × 4 Padas create 108 subdivisions of the zodiac, which is considered a sacred number in Hindu astrology.
