What is Choghadiya?

Choghadiya (also spelled Chogadia) is a Vedic time division system that splits each day and night into 8 periods each (16 total). Each period is ruled by a planet and has a specific quality: Amrit (nectar — most auspicious), Shubh (auspicious), Labh (gain), Char (neutral/movable), Rog (disease), Kaal (death), and Udveg (anxiety). It is widely used for quick muhurat decisions.

For important activities, prefer Amrit, Shubh, or Labh periods. Char is acceptable for travel and routine tasks. Avoid Rog, Kaal, and Udveg for new beginnings. Each Choghadiya period lasts approximately 1.5 hours during the day and varies at night. The starting planet cycles based on the weekday, ensuring different auspicious times each day.

Amrit (Moon): Best for all activities, especially spiritual. Shubh (Venus): Great for ceremonies and celebrations. Labh (Jupiter): Ideal for business and financial deals. Char (Mercury): Suitable for travel. Rog (Mars): Avoid unless for medical treatments. Kaal (Saturn): Avoid important activities. Udveg (Sun): Only suitable for government-related work.
