What is Chaldean Numerology?

Chaldean numerology is the oldest known system of number-letter interpretation, originating in ancient Babylon. Unlike the Pythagorean system, Chaldean numerology assigns values 1 through 8 to letters (the number 9 is considered sacred and is not assigned to any letter). This system is based on the vibrations and energy each letter produces, making it especially popular for analysing the power of names.

In the Chaldean system, letters are mapped by their sound vibration rather than alphabetical order: A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=8, G=3, H=5, I=1, J=1, K=2, L=3, M=4, N=5, O=7, P=8, Q=1, R=2, S=3, T=4, U=6, V=6, W=6, X=5, Y=1, Z=7. Notice that no letter equals 9 — this is unique to Chaldean numerology and is a key distinguishing feature.

In Chaldean tradition, the number 9 is regarded as a holy and divine number. It was considered too sacred to be assigned to a mundane letter. However, if the sum of all letter values reduces to 9, it is interpreted normally. The exclusion applies only to individual letter assignments, not to final results.

Chaldean name analysis produces three core numbers: the Destiny Number (sum of all letters in your full name) reveals your talents and life mission; the Soul Urge Number (sum of vowels only — A, E, I, O, U) uncovers your inner desires and emotional drivers; and the Personality Number (sum of consonants only) shows the outer image you project to the world.

Chaldean numerology is considered more accurate by many practitioners because it is based on the vibrational quality of each letter rather than simple alphabetical order. It is especially recommended for name analysis and business name evaluation. Pythagorean numerology, on the other hand, is more widely used in the West and is simpler to learn. Many experts suggest trying both and seeing which resonates more with your experience.
